To the Ordinary Keepers
[Fredericksburg, 6 October 1755]
Orders to the Ordinary-Keepers, on Captain Woodwards Route to Fort Cumberland.
You are hereby Ordered and strictly Required, to make proper provisions of Meat, Bread, &c. for Sixty men one day: they will be at your House on the [ ] Day of October, on their March to Fort Cumberland: and I will see you paid a reasonable allowance.

1. See GW’s Orders, 6 Oct. 1755. Charles Lewis recorded in his “Journal” that on 10 Oct., the first day of the march, “the Men being most of them drunk we marchd but 7 M. [from Fredericksburg] to Pickets.” The detachment was at Hardin’s on the night of 11 Oct., at Neville’s the next night, and at “Woods 18 [miles] to Winchester” on the next, arriving in Winchester on 14 Oct.
