4James Geddy had a store in Williamsburg.

5On 23 Oct. 1766 John Tayloe’s Hero beat William Byrd’s Valiant Tryall and Richard Lee’s Mark Anthony “at the race ground near this city” (Virginia Gazette [Purdie and Dixon; Williamsburg], 24 Oct. 1766).

6William Godfrey, peruke maker, advertised in the Virginia Gazette (Purdie and Dixon; Williamsburg) on 25 April 1766 the opening in Williamsburg of a “shop between the Raleigh and the Capitol, where he proposes carrying on his business in all its branches.”

7The £22.10, which was “Cash [paid Bartholomew Dandridge] at [Burwell Bassett’s],” may have been in partial payment of £45 for “1 Single Chair—& Sorrel Horse” that GW was buying from Dandridge (General Ledger A description begins General Ledger A, 1750–1772.
