From George Washington to the Commanding Officer at Albany, 1 January 1778

To the Commanding Officer at Albany

Head Quarters [Valley Forge] 1st Janry 1778

Sir,

I have been informed that a number of broad Swords and other horse accoutrements taken in the Course of the last Campaign are deposited at Albany if this be the case you are to deliver those Articles to Colonel Sheldon o[n] his order for the use of the Brigade of Light Dragoons. I am Sir Yours &c.

Df, in John Laurens’s writing, DLC:GW; Varick transcript, DLC:GW. The commanding officer at Albany, N.Y., at this time was apparently Col. John Greaton.
