Richmond [Va.] March 5th 1785

Dear sir

The Bearer hereof Mr Alexander Donald wishes to have the Honor of presenting himself to you, & has entreated of me to sollicit for him permission to do so.

I take the Liberty therefore to introduce him to you, not doubting but you will find him agreable. With the highest Esteem & Regard I am Dear sir, your most obedient Servant

Alexander Donald, a close friend of Thomas Jefferson, was a merchant in Richmond and was associated in business with Robert Morris of Philadelphia. He arrived at Mount Vernon on 16 Mar. with Governor Henry’s letter.
