To John Eager Howard

Philadelphia December 21st 1790

Sir,

I have had the honor to receive your Excellency’s letter of the 5th of November,1 enclosing a certificate of the late election of Representatives for the State of Maryland in the Congress of the United States, which certificate I have caused to be delivered to Mr Beckley, Clerk of the House of Representatives. 1On 5 Nov. 1790 Howard wrote to GW, “to transmit to your Excellency herein enclosed, a certificate of the late election of representatives.” The docket, in Jefferson’s hand, indicates that “the above certificate was delivered to Mr Beckley, clerk of the house of representatives, by Th: Jefferson” (DNA: RG 59, Miscellaneous Letters).
