I hope to be able to have all the papers for The two reports copied so as to be presented to Congress on tuesday, but all of which shall be first submitted to your consideration.2 I am Sir with perfect respect & attachmt your humble Servant

1. Knox enclosed Henry Lee’s letter to GW of either 4 or 16 Dec., both of which contained news of Arthur St. Clair’s defeat, and apparently George Muter’s letter to Thomas Jefferson of 17 Nov. (see GW to Jefferson, 25 Dec. [first letter], n.1). The letter from James Seagrove, which has not been found, probably was the one to which Knox referred in his instructions to Seagrove of 20 Feb. 1792: “In your letter to the President you mention an idea of Bowles’ introducing goods, through the St. Mary’s, into the Creek nation” ( 1:249–50).
2. See Knox to GW, 26 Dec. 1791.
