For the background to this letter, see Pierre L’Enfant to GW, 21 Nov. 1791, editorial note.
1. For the enclosed letter, see the Commissioners for the District of Columbia to GW, 21 December.
2. No reply from Jefferson has been found. GW probably met with him on 26 or 27 Dec. to discuss the unexpected memorial of several proprietors of land in the Federal City. For GW’s response to it, see GW to the Commissioners for the District of Columbia, 27 December.
