3James Douglas, 14th Earl of Morton (1702–1768), F.R.S., 1733, physicist and writer on astronomy, was first president of the Edinburgh Society for Improving Arts and Sciences, 1739; lord clerk register of Scotland, 1760; and the successor to the Earl of Macclesfield as president of the Royal Society, 1764.
