To George Washington
New Haven, 12 December 1790
Dear Sir,
On the 2 Instant ^Before I left Providence [illegible]^ I was honored with yours of the 19 of last month. It found me at Providence. Having I wrote ^had written^ to you by the Post from Boston on the 13 november. That Letter probably reached you ^arrived^ soon after the Date of yours. In it I took the Liberty of suggesting some Hints on Subjects that ^some^ ^of wh. a few^ appeared to me, interesting, and some of them in my opinion ^to^ and to merit ^[illegible]^ present, and some ^others^ future attention ^Regard.^— Be so obliging my dear Sir as to inform me ^by a favr^ whether that Letter came safe to your Hands.1 I should regret its miscarriage, not on acct. of any Inconveniences that might result ^for none can^ but because it evinces that Frankness which you so kindly invite, and that attention which I rejoice in opportunities of manifesting. Be pleased to present my respectful Compts. to Mrs. Washington and be assured of the perfect Respect, Esteem and attachment with wh. I always and most sincerely am, my dear Sir, your obd obliged and obt. Servt.
