1GW noted in May 1766 selling Alexander Ross of Maryland 10,000 shingles @$3 or “17/3 Virga C[urrenc]y pr thousand” and, on 29 Oct. 1766, receiving “30 Dollars—£8.14.3” (General Ledger A description begins General Ledger A, 1750–1772. Library of Congress, George Washington Papers, Series 5, Financial Papers. description ends , folio 235). As GW indicates, the £11.5 is in Maryland currency.

2See the Carlyle & Adam account in General Ledger A description begins General Ledger A, 1750–1772. Library of Congress, George Washington Papers, Series 5, Financial Papers. description ends , folio 180.

3This is a loan to Mrs. Frances Colvill. See Cash Accounts, April 1767, for its repayment. See also GW to John West, Jr., December 1767.

4GW sent £1 to Isaac Jackson, a fuller in Winchester, in payment of his charges of 15s. 9d. for “fulling & dressing 10½ yds of ¾ Cloth—@18d.” and 4s. for “Scouring & dressing 8 yds of Shalloon [@] 6d.” (General Ledger A description begins General Ledger A, 1750–1772.
