General Orders

Parole, Neilson.Countersign Langdon.

His Excellency General Washington, has been pleased to appoint Mr William Marony, Provost Marshal to the Army of the United Colonies, serving in the Massachusetts-bay; he is therefore in all things appertaining to his Office, to be considered and obeyed as such.1

1William Marony served as provost marshal until 1 Oct. 1776 when he was suspended for being absent without leave (see General Orders, that date). A draft of GW’s commission to Marony dated January 1776 with the day of the month left blank is in DLC:GW, as is a Varick transcript of that draft.
