Sir

Being just returned from German Town, I beg leave to inform your Excellency that I was happy enough to perfect the Exchange of the following Officers, for those of equal Rank due to us from the Enemy, which I hope will meet with your Excellency’s Approbation.1 I have the Honor to be Your Excellency’s Most Obedt Hble Servt

1The accompanying table, entitled “Exchange of Prisoners Aprill 20 1778,” listed the names of fifty-nine officers, including Maj. Gen. Charles Lee, Colonels William Irvine and Samuel Miles, and Lieutenant Colonels Selah Heart, Benjamin Holden, Ethan Allen, Stephen Moulton, Sr., and Thomas Bull. Two of the three surgeons exchanged were “to be named yet,” and the thirty-four privates were not listed by name.
