Sir,
Congress have directed their Thanks to be presented to Colonel Van Schaick & the Troops under his Command on the Onandaga Expedition—It appears to me most proper that this be communicated to him by your Excellency, & therefore a Copy of the Resolution on that Subject is enclosed.1
The Conduct of Colonels Davies, & Harrison in their Conferences with the British Commissioners respecting a Cartel is approved by Congress, & a copy of the Resolutions on that head is now transmitted.2 I have the honor to be with the greatest Respect & Esteem your Excellency’s most Obedt Servant

1. The enclosed resolution thanking Col. Goose Van Schaick and the officers and men under his command for their conduct in an expedition against Onondaga, N.Y., is in DLC:GW; see also , 14:566–67. GW forwarded the resolution to Van Schaick on 14 May under cover of a short note: “I have the pleasure to inclose you the thanks of Congress in a resolve of the 10th instant, for the late expedition against the Onondagas” (DLC:GW).
